The Sampler Incident
The sampler incident of September 9th is a fictitious back-story created by Daft Punk to explain the origins of their robot personas, used as an advertisement on Cartoon Network to promote a special presentation of their Discovery videos.
In the ad, Thomas Bangalter stated, "We did not choose to become robots. There was an accident in our studio. We were working on our sampler, and at exactly 9:09 a.m. on September 9, 1999, it exploded. When we regained consciousness, we discovered that we had become robots."
